Translate Plugin

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

It’s one of those newfandangled widgets, it adds little flags to your sidebar, which will take you to a translation of the current blog page. It uses Google Translate, but removes the frame, so it looks quite nice! Once you’re in one language, you can browse around the blog, and everything stays translated. You can just click on the English flag to get back to the original language. You should see it on my sidebar now, and you can give it a trial run.

Next Gen Gallery Plugin

Monday, September 7th, 2009

NextGEN Gallery is a full integrated Image Gallery plugin for WordPress with a Flash slideshow option. Before I start writing the plugin I study all photo and picture plugins for WordPress, I figure out that some of them are really good and well designed, but I missed a simple and easy administration back end to handle multiple photos, galleries and albums.

Features

  • Templates : You can add custom templates for your theme.
  • Media RSS feed : Add the Cooliris Effect to your gallery
  • Role settings : Each gallery has a author
  • AJAX based thumbnail generator : No more server limitation during the batch process
  • Copy/Move : Copy or move images between galleries
  • Sortable Albums : Create your own sets of images
  • Upload or pictures via a zip-file (Not in Safe-mode)
  • Watermark function : You can add a watermark image or text
  • JavaScript Effect : Use any available popular image effect : Shutter, Thickbox, Lightbox or Highslide
  • Multiple CSS Stylesheet : Use a nice shadow effect for your thumbnails with your own CSS file
  • Slideshow : Full integrated flash slideshow

Plugin Directory

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Plugins can extend WordPress to do almost anything you can imagine. In the directory you can find, download, rate, and comment on all the best plugins the WordPress community has to offer.

WordPress can host your plugin

You’ve got a cool new plugin and are hoping to give it some exposure. You’re in the right place. Just ask us to host it for you. You’ll be able to:

  1. Keep track of how many people have downloaded it.
  2. Let people leave comments about your plugin.
  3. Get your plugin rated against all the other cool WordPress plugins.
  4. Give your plugin lots of exposure in this centralized repository.

There are only a few restrictions:

  1. Your plugin must be GPL Compatible.
  2. It can’t do anything illegal, or be morally offensive (that’s subjective, we know).
  3. You have to actually use the subversion repository we give you in order for your plugin to show up on this site. The WordPress Plugins Directory is a hosting site, not a listing site.

It’s pretty simple

  1. Sign up.
  2. Within some vaguely defined amount of time, some one will approve your request.
  3. You’ll then have access to a Subversion Repository where you’ll store your plugin.
  4. Once you put your plugin (and a readme file!) in that repository, it will shortly be automatically entered into the plugins browser.
  5. Check out the FAQ for more information.
